How Much Will My Divorce Cost?
Your initial phone consultation is 100% Free. No time limit. No pressure to hire me. Just a causal talk about your circumstances and me giving you advice about how to best proceed. From there, we can discuss representation, costs, and likely outcomes.
This fist talk is a no-pressure free discussion with myself (no rookies and no paralegal intake person) where every aspect of your case can be discussed. In this initial consultation, you will be provided information with best approaches to different circumstances, likely outcomes, what you should be doing right now, and what you should not be doing right now.
I know full well that attorney's fees can be scary for most people. Divorce lawyers have created a bad reputation for themselves by charging astronomical fees for their services. It doesn't have to be that way. Without a strategy to get you toward settlement, you can expect an expensive bloodbath divorce. A good game plan will not only properly set your expectations, but should save you from having to pay tens of thousands of dollars. Without a plan, your case will be delayed and expensive, where the only plan is you paying your lawyer money for a case that doesn't seem to finish.
Careful of lawyers and their marketing. You'll notice an opulent appearance and an entire webpage dedicated to their "team" of associates and support staff. And who do you think pays for all of that? You do! And you'll pay dearly to the extent that you may have to file bankruptcy at the end of your divorce. You weren't expecting that, and few people will actually warn you.
I know that happens, because I used to work at those offices. I know what law firms don't want you to know. I know how they have billing minimums on your file, whether your file needs attention or not. I know how they pander to a client's emotions because more work will then be involved. I know how the lawyer you initially talked to will not be the lawyer that's in courtroom for you.
I know how you will be dished off to a rookie associate, or worse, a paralegal.
Sure, everyone will be nice and address your every concerns, or at least you'll feel like they care. Until you run out of money to pay them. When you can't pay, they will dump you so fast, you won't even know what happened.
When your case is over, you'll soon realize that 99% of the fighting and courtroom drama could have been avoided.
I do things a little different at my office. I once had that large beautiful office. I once had one of the largest divorce law firm in the State of Illinois with 9 associates, full support staff and a nice office to accomodate that machine. But I soon realized that clients didn't actually want to pay for that. They just want their divorce done quickly and affordably. Clients cared little for a polished office that they rarely visited, or a large staff that kept them away from being able to access and talk to a lawyer.
I changed things in 2013. I offer services differently. I am your lawyer. No rookies. No associates. When you call, you only talk to me. Everything is designed to be affordable. My support staff works behind me not in-front of me. I use technology to turn expensive tasks into affordable options for my clientele. Your retainer is set affordably. My fees tend to be one-third to one-half of opposing attorneys because of better office management, better divorce strategy, and fee sensitive billing practices.
Spouses should avoid high retainers for lawyers with far less experience.
I'm also one of very few attorneys that offers a no retainer options, low-bono options, and a flat fee for uncontested cases.

There are a few ways that I make representation more affordable:
1) I only uses a "real time" billing practice. Meaning, I only document the actual time that I'm working on your file. This is not true at other offices.
2) I will set a reasonable and more affordable initial retainer. Usually around $1,500.00 but sometimes less so that everyone can afford representation. I would rather you have a lawyer from day one, than me having to fix expensive mistakes or strategy errors later caused by another lawyer.
3) I don't require minimum billing payments for specific services. Some lawyers bill minimums for court (one hour), phone calls (1/2 hour), or in increments of .25 (15 minutes). I track all of my work in increments of six minutes. This alone saves my clientele thousands of dollars.
4) I place importance on when and where to file your case. It matters when you file, who files first, and where you file your case. You can read more about where to file by clicking here. To fully understand why filing first matters, click here.
5) I do not bill for photocopies, postage, charge a monthly administration fee, or credit card processing fees. Over the course of a case, this could save a client thousands of dollars.
6) I do not charge for travel to DuPage or Will County. This alone saves my clientele an additional thousands of dollars in their divorce case. For Cook County, I do charge a trip charge for in-person court appearances which is rare. The trip charge is far less than the actual time it takes to drive to and from the Daley Center.
7) I offer courtesy discounts to all of my clients that pay with Zelle or Venmo - I share the savings with my clients.
My experience and my history are what set me apart. I was once looking for a lawyer much like you. I hired what I thought was a good lawyer, and quickly found out that I was being screwed and being chewed up by the system. I remember being billed a full hour for what was a 10 minute phone call, being billed for a box of paperclips, and another $20 for someone to photo copy my driver's license. That's when I decided to go to law school knowing that I could do this better.
It's important to have a fee sensitive lawyer that tracks his or her time with what's called a "light pencil" other than other lawyers that over-bill with what lawyers call a "heavy pen."
